About the Westshore Wolves:
The Westshore Wolves are a junior ice hockey team based in Colwood, British Columbia, and proud members of the Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL). Since joining the league in 2012, the Wolves have become a cornerstone of player development on the island. As the official farm team of the Langley Rivermen (BCHL), we play a crucial role in preparing athletes for the next level.
Our home games are held at The Q Centre, a 2,300-seat multi-use arena we share with teams such as the Victoria Grizzlies and Victoria Shamrocks. Under new ownership as of June 2024, we are entering an exciting new chapter with a strong focus on development, community involvement, and competitive success.

Position Summary:
We are currently accepting applications for the full-time position of Head Coach and General Manager. This is a leadership role responsible for all on-ice and off-ice aspects of our hockey program (regular season and off-season, seasonal programing), including coaching, player recruitment, team culture development, and operational support.
The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced hockey professional with a proven track record of leadership at the Junior level or higher. They will be expected to uphold the values of the Westshore Wolves while guiding our athletes both on the ice and in life. The successful candidate will have a strong background in player development, team management, and junior-level competition. They will lead the team during the VIJHL season and run off-season initiatives such as spring programs, ID camps, and development sessions—playing a key role in shaping the future of the organization year-round.
Key Responsibilities:
On-Ice Duties:
- Develop and Execute Training Programs: Deliver high-performance practice plans focusing on skill, systems, and conditioning.
- Game Strategy & Tactics: Prepare and implement game plans based on detailed scouting and opponent analysis.
- Player Development: Monitor individual and team performance, provide feedback, and create personal development strategies.
- Mentorship: Inspire and lead players by example; create a culture of accountability, effort, and sportsmanship.
- Game-Day Coaching: Manage all aspects of in-game strategy, line combinations, and in-the-moment decision-making.
Off-Ice Duties:
- Recruitment & Scouting: Lead player identification and recruiting through ID camps, spring programs, and ongoing network outreach.
- Team Management: Oversee logistics, including travel, schedules, and equipment.
- Spring Programs: Lead all spring programming including development camps, dryland training, games, and seminars.
- Community Engagement: Serve as the public face of the Westshore Wolves within the Westshore community—building relationships with local businesses, fans, and schools.
- Organizational Alignment: Work with ownership and management to achieve strategic goals and align with the team’s developmental model.
- Billet Program Support: Collaborate with staff to support billet family recruitment and player placement.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Coaching Certification: High Performance 1 (HP1) certification through Hockey Canada (or in progress).
- Experience: Previous Head Coach or significant Assistant Coach experience at the Junior level or higher is strongly preferred.
- Leadership: Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Player Development Knowledge: Strong understanding of player development models and junior hockey systems, including BCHL pathways.
- Respect in Sport: Certification required.
- Criminal Record Check: Must provide a current check, including vulnerable sector screening.
- Community-Focused: Must demonstrate a genuine interest in engaging with the community and supporting the growth of hockey in the region.
- Organizational Fit: Willingness to uphold the direction, values, and culture of the Westshore Wolves under new ownership.
Compensation:
Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Between $40,000 and $50,000
