Position Overview
The Westshore Wolves Junior Hockey Team is seeking an enthusiastic, qualified Athletic Therapist to join our team for the upcoming VIJHL season. This key position is responsible for managing all player injuries, health and wellness needs, and providing general trainer and equipment support throughout the season. The successful candidate will work closely with the coaching staff and management and must be comfortable operating independently in a fast-paced, high-performance hockey environment.
Note: The team does not have a dedicated team doctor. Players are expected to work with their personal family physicians. The Athletic Therapist will collaborate with these medical professionals as required.HeadCheck Health is used for concussion testing and tracking. Familiarity with this platform is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for all players
- Monitor and report all injuries and illnesses to coaching staff and management
- Maintain accurate medical records and injury documentation
- Coordinate player care with personal family doctors and outside healthcare providers
- Conduct concussion baseline testing and ongoing monitoring using HeadCheck Health
- Create and implement return-to-play and emergency action plans
- Provide first aid and medical support during all practices and games (home and away)
- Oversee off-ice training, warm-ups, and cool-downs
- Supervise player nutrition and hydration strategies
- Manage ordering, inventory, and maintenance of medical and team equipment
- Comply with all VIJHL and Hockey Canada safety and medical protocols
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certified Athletic Therapist (CAT(C), or equivalent)
- Sports First Responder (or equivalent First Aid certification)
- Experience using HeadCheck Health or willingness to learn
- Up-to-date Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector check)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience working in hockey, preferably at the Junior level or higher
- Able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel for road games
Contract & Compensation
- Contract length and salary are negotiable and based on experience and qualifications
- This is a seasonal position, with the potential to renew annually
